Kenwood - East Isles - Lowry Hill
Minneapolis is known for many things, and top on the list is the Minneapolis Lakes District. The District encompasses the City Lakes of Calhoun, Harriet, Cedar and Lake of the Isles.
The Lowry Hill, East Isles and Kenwood neighborhoods surround Lake of the Isles. Many people refer to the entire area as Kenwood, much to the chagrin of area residents. For more on the neighborhoods, see below.
The area has a rich and interesting history. Many books have been written, including The Lakes District of Minneapolis, A history of the Calhoun-Isles Community, by David Lanegran & Ernest R. Sandeen. It is an area boasting numerous mansions, historic homes, wealth & prestige. It is an area whose residents take pride in their community. The Basilica is nearby, as well as numerous churches, including Hennepin Avenue Methodist Church. Some say it is one of the most desired areas in Minneapolis. From the Sculpture Gardens, you can walk east over the bridge to Loring Park, another Minneapolis area with history! There are numerous small parks for your children to play. The East Isles neighborhood is essentially the east side of Lake of the Isles. The neighborhood boundaries extend from 22nd Street East on the north to Lake Street East on the south and from Hennepin Avenue on the east to the lake shores on the west and Knox Avenue South on the southwest.
